what i grew up looking at

There is a girl who comments on my blog and whose work I really really like - this whole time I've been reminded of something that I couldn't place my finger on - and today I realized what it was - there were these Russian illustrators that I grew up with - they drew pictures for everything and are amazing. This is Little Match Girl, obviously, but some other pictures are here and here.

  1. isn't it so weird when you look at illustrations in books you had as a kid? it is like i can remember every detail of them but then they all look so strange because i see them through my grown up vision/brain and it's different. i have a fairy tale book i found last year that gives me those feelings, maybe i'll scan a couple page to show you.

these are neat drawings because they are so different than what i'm used to seeing in books, i like them alot.
