This is really interesting - I like the idea of kids learning to think this way because of kids books. You know, I also have this problem though - where whenever I try to come up with a story I think well, what is this about? What is this teaching kids? And I think maybe that's wrong - because that makes it less fun. I've been thinking much more as an adult about books...ugh. Anyway, that's probably for a longer discussion.
yes, definitely this is a super important point to mull over. probably since we are adults, we have to just fight against this way of thinking all the time and work on remembering what it was like in our minds when we were little.
we are dasha and kate. we are friends. we live on opposite sides of the country. we share wonderful things of the world with each other here (with a strong bias towards children's books and illustration because, well we both illustrate children's books of course!)
we make our best effort to credit images and words when they are not ours - however if you see your work on our blog and would rather not - please let us know and we will remove it immediately. we share these images with each other in our utmost admiration and would never want to offend.
